What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a scientific profession concerned with the treatment of the musculoskeletal and movement systems of the body. Physiotherapists are University qualified and must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). They are highly skilled and trained in the musculoskeletal and neurological systems. They employ unique hands-on techniques in association with proven modalities and individualised exercise programs to assist patients recover from muscle and joint problems.

Do I need to see my Doctor before starting Physiotherapy?

In Australia, Physiotherapists are primary care clinicians qualified and skilled in the management of muscle and joint problems. You do not need a referral to see a Physiotherapist. However, your Physiotherapist will normally ask about who your Doctor is so that your Doctor can be informed about your condition and progress.

Do you have HICAPS?

Yes. Bring your private health fund card with you to your appointment and we can process your claim on the spot with HICAPS.

How much will my Health Fund pay?

This varies significantly between funds and depends on your level of cover. If you wish to know the exact amount of rebate please contact your fund directly.

Are you a “preferred provider”?

A limited number of health funds have preferred provider programs. Don’t be fooled. “Preferred” means practitioner’s agree to a reduced fee. Typically practitioners attracted to these programs attempt to see patients more often and for reduced treatment times to help offset the reduced fee. It is a false economy as the total cost of treatment is often more (notwithstanding your time investment). You still receive a rebate from your health fund when you attend Brisbane City Physiotherapy and we pride ourselves on providing the best quality treatment.

When should I use heat?

The question ‘when should I use heat’ is commonly encountered in physiotherapy clinical practice. Heat should be used to help speed injury healing once the injury has completed the inflammatory phase. The inflammatory phase normally lasts up to 72 hours following injury or injury aggravation.

When should I use ice?

Ice treatment should always be used during the inflammatory phase of an injury. This occurs in the first 72 hours following injury or injury aggravation.
